Window Treatment Ideas
The best window treatment ideas are those which enable the buyer to pick the best possible materials and styles for getting the perfect look for the window.
Out of the many popular window treatment ideas, you can decide on the one you want to go for depending upon the type of window that needs working on. If the window is placed in the room where ample amount of light is required, then light colored curtains are suitable. The material of the curtains which would be most desirable in such a case would be cotton, linen, polyester and net. These styles of curtain fabrics allow light to pass through without compromising with the privacy. These types of curtains use up light colors like white and cream. Window treatment ideas like these are best suited for study rooms and kitchens where the interiors are supposed to be bright.
Apart from the light colored curtains, you can also put light colored shades and blinds. The blinds can be placed in a vertical, horizontal or rolling fashion. The material of the blinds also varies depending on the use. For a contemporary look and low budget solutions, one of the best window treatment ideas in blinds are the PVC blinds. These are heavy, strong and easy to maintain. These come in many colors and their slats can be placed horizontally or vertically depending upon your preference. The wooden blinds have a good visual appeal to them. These are best suited for rooms and houses with wooden finish. The wooden blinds are good for excessively bright rooms where the interiors of the rooms require darkening. Roman blinds are also quite popular. This category of window coverings are easy to handle can also be made at home using either new or old curtain fabrics.
Other window treatment ideas for overly bright rooms are curtains with heavy fabrics and dark colors. Such curtains coupled with the valances complete the whole look of the window treatments. Heavy shutters can also enhance the look of the windows drastically. The various shutter styles suitable for the purpose are raised panel or colonial style. Rolling blinds are available in various printing designs, semi-light filtering and black-out type and these also give a new look to the windows. The rolling shutters can be placed both inside or outside the house and can be decorative due to the use of different colors or materials such as bamboo. Awnings are a common choice for highly lit rooms. The positive point in the case of awnings is that the window treatment ideas which make use of awnings allow breeze to come inside while keeping the sun out.
Every room requires different window coverings. The living room or the lounge windows must be both decorative and stimulating. Apart from the decorative curtains and valances, your windows can undergo a complete makeover by adding a huge ornate glass or a crystal shelf to the window. This would replace the simple and drab look with exquisiteness.
The window treatment ideas and styles like the awnings, bay, casement, sliders, grille panels and stained glass can be used for remodeling your windows.
Window treatments can be carried out from the outer side of the windows too. The box bay windows commonly used in kitchens have a protruding shelf which can be used to keep potted plants for decorative purpose. If you are a plant lover, then climbers are a wonderful way to decorate your windows from the outside. This is suitable for the small windows which are used less frequently. Window treatment ideas that are based on the country themes can be quite exciting. You can choose a theme like Arabic, French or Italian and decide on the window architectures depending upon the chosen theme. These architectures are quite different from each other and have a range of designs for window treatment ideas which you can adopt for your windows.

Window Treatment
Curtains, drapes, blinds, shades, sheers, shutters can produce a clean, neutral backdrop or provide a full-dressed flourish. In either case, the way you choose to treat your windows lends rhythm to a room, adding pattern and color, light and shadow. As with the pleats and folds of a beautifully draped garment, you can tailor almost any kind of dressing to your windows, to stand out on its own or to reinforce the room's style.
Window treatments help to define the decor of a room. They are a visual filter between indoors and out. Create a shelter with a soft wall of texture and color or let light come streaming in.
Tips
* First determine which treatment is appropriate for your room. Notice where the light falls and think about how you use the room.
* Consider using double-rod draperies; that way you have both a basic, year-round layer closest to your window, and a second, outer layer that can be changed easily with the seasons. Pick up a color of the season to echo flowers blooming in your garden. In winter, create a cozier or more elaborate treatment with lush fabrics in warm or metallic hues. Heavier fabrics help retain heat, and deeper colors offer respite from winter's cold palette. In spring and summer; a light outer layer lets you open the windows to feel the breeze; materials are generally solid and subtle, in simple weaves like linen and cotton.
* Think about how you like your window treatments feel and function before choosing type, color, material, and style. heavily draped, opaque window treatments tend to be more static and sculptural. Lighter or transparent ones have more movement and seem more casual.
* With interesting details around your windows like moldings, bed board, or brick, you can can think of inner layer as a tonal extension of the wall and keep it simply neutral. Or, you may want to draw more focus; plain walls may benefit from treatments that create graphic interest.
* Choose decorative rods, finials, holdback, and ties that lend elegance or whimsy to your windows. Using garlands of beads, colorful ribbons, or silk scarves as tiebacks can add a creative touch to your windows for the holidays or for celebrations. With window treatments, options are nearly limitless.

Why Opt for the Best Window Shades
There are many options to choose from when you buy windows coverings for your home. But before you make your purchase, there are few things that you need to consider. Will you need a window shade that controls light and heat? What designs go best with your furnishings? And will it be installed in your kid's room? Different window shades are bought to suit your budget needs and preference as well.
A window shade exists to cover windows. There are types of window treatments that blackout incoming light like vinyl blinds and roller shades. This makes a good option should you sleep by day. With these shades around, you block the harmful rays of the sun and protect your furnishings from fading. It also provides a cooler room temperature by minimizing the heat of the sun. If you need more light in your room, vinyl blinds and roller shades can come in light-filtering options. Just roll it up or down when you want sunlight or shade when heat is warmer.
The aesthetics of your window shades are also crucial to your choices. Will it hang alone in your windows, or will there be other window treatments like curtains and drapes. You can make your window shade stand out in your furnishings by choosing vibrant colors. Or you may want an eco-friendly or natural look in the room by choosing wood or wood-like options. Neutral colors make good options if you want your window treatments to complement your inner décor. Or you may prefer darker colors that provide privacy and the needed shade during the day.
Having children or pets around will require safety especially when you purchase shades. If there are roll-up shades or blinds with long cords, be very careful as these cause strangulation on your kids and pets. To prevent such occurrences, you keep the cord in a special hardware where it is out of their reach; or you may settle for cordless window shades. Choose washable and durable materials if your kids operate the shade or blinds. Ensure that these window treatments are securely installed to prevent upcoming danger on your children.
A careful selection can maximize its usefulness. As these come in many different varieties of colors, styles and materials, try to look around to choose the best one that suits you. Window shades are there to protect you; and these also provide beauty to your windows.

The Reason for Roller Shutters
In a changing world of weather and economy, there are many reasons one might want to protect themselves from the means. Whether protecting our home, business, or investment property there are certain steps that are always needed to secure the property. If it be weather or intruder, the doors and window are the way in.
Say you own an investment property in Missouri, but you've moved on to a lovely retirement in sunny Florida. You plan to sell it once the market comes back up, but for now its sitting unattended. So you throw an extra dead bolt on each door to make sure none of the local teenagers decide to throw a party in your house.
A couple months into your retirement you get a call from your old neighbour, "Hey John, just wanted to let you know there is a busted window on the back sided of your house." You politely ask them to check on it for you, and your neighbour graciously says okay. Two day later you get a phone call from the Missouri PD informing you that the interior of your house has been covered in spray paint and the floor was scorched from a small shrine of candles left there." You call the local repair man to fix the house and have him board up the windows to avoid this happening again. A few weeks later you get a letter from the Small Town Public Council informing you that your property is an eyesore to the community and you are being fined.
This all could have been avoided if you had thought ahead and made a small investment on your large asset. Roller Shutters provide a discreet way for us to fully secure our properties. Whether it is doors, windows, or even storefronts, roller shutters will fully secure every entrance. They are community friendly and have a discrete roll away feature. When they are not in need they go quite unnoticed and when they are they still maintain the aesthetic and visual quality of the property. Once secured, they keep our outside worries from getting in. No more tree branches through the window, intruders kicking in the door, teens find their new hangout, or Community councils finding this week's funding. Secure, appealing, durable, and functional, they should be the first investment made whenever buying a property. Save the money that it will cost down the road, and make an investment that you know will pay off.

Decorative Glass Film for Your Store Front or Office
One of the most important factors of success for any business is how your customers see you, not only in terms of your company's reputation, but also the physical appearance of your store or office. It is essential to make a good impression from the moment the potential customer or client walks up to your door.
Many home and business owners have already discovered the money and energy saving benefits of window film, but not everyone realizes its potential as a design element. Decorative window film can be used to achieve a variety of aesthetic effects, at only a fraction of the cost of other window treatments. Whether you run a corner shop or a large office, decorative window film is the perfect solution to give your space a distinctive appearance.
Store Front Appeal
Etched glass has always been a popular look, but custom etched glass can be very expensive. The glass must be sandblasted or chemically etched by the manufacturer; if a change is required down the road, the glass will have to be completely replaced, which will not be cheap. Decorative window film can be used to give the appearance of etched glass without actually altering the glass. You can have your company logo "etched" onto your glass doors with decorative film for a high class appearance without the high cost. Decorative film can also be used to create other styles such as beveled, stained, embossed, or patterned glass.
Office Style
Decorative film can add style to any office building. It can be purely decorative, or it can serve a double purpose by also obscuring the view through the glass for greater privacy. This type of use is perfect for conference rooms, where the light and openness provided by glass windows is desirable, but you do not want everyone passing by to see what is happening inside the room. Decorative film can also be used to make your waiting area and other spaces more visually interesting.
Design trends can change quickly, and installing custom glass is an expensive investment that could be out-dated before you know it. With decorative film, you do not need to worry about being stuck with a design that has gone out of fashion. If you want to switch to a new style or pattern, you can simply have the film removed and replaced at a much lower cost than replacing the glass itself. With decorative window film, you can be sure that your business will always make a good impression.

Ways You Could Benefit From Installing Double Glazing
Finding a good double glazing company in the current market can be a difficult prospect. Double glazing prices can vary from company to company and you need to know what you are getting for your money
Opting for double glazing windows is becoming increasingly popular as people look for ways to save on bills and to improve the value of their homes. With double glazed windows you can significantly reduce the amount of heat escaping your home; this means that you don't have to rely on central heating to keep your house as warm, therefore saving on your heating bill. This works by trapping a layer of air between the 2 sheets of glass, preventing the cold outside air getting in and the warm air inside getting out.
So what is the best way to find the right company and the right price? Your local telephone directory is the best place to start. Most local companies that offer glass or window installations will offer double glazing services. Give them a call and find out a price range, this will allow you to shop around for the best prices and services. Once you speak to quite a few companies and compare their prices, you will be able to start making a decision. It is always best to compare the market beforehand.
Once you have your double glazing prices and have started to finalise your list, try asking around and look for people who have used their services before. If they are a local company and you can't find anybody who has used them, this is probably a bad sign anyway. You should always try and go with a reputable company with experience and results to back up their claims. By hearing firsthand from other customers who will be able to gauge their levels of customer service, good customer service should always be a big priority. See if they have a website with previous customer testimonials. The more information you can find the likelier they are a professional and respectable company.
Make sure you read the small print in their quotes and contracts too. You need to make sure that they are quoting for everything you need Missing any dubious terms in their terms and conditions can really come back to cost you later on. Make sure you are fully aware of what you are signing up for; it is often a good idea to get someone else to double check as well. You need to know a company is capable of delivering exactly what you want, to the specifications of your property, within the budget you can afford.
You should also be realistic with your budget. You should never expect great results for low costs. It is a competitive business and companies will try to match each others' pricing within reason. If one company stands out too drastically, there may be something afoot. By collecting a number of quotes and talking to enough people you will soon get a good idea of what is a fair price. Never risk quality for a cheap price; chances are this will only end up costing you more in repairs and replacements in the long run. If you follow these simple tips and choose carefully you shouldn't have to worry about your double glazing. As long as you follow this simple advice, buying double glazing should be trouble free.
Sarah Haines is always looking for new ways to save money and conserve energy, double glazing is just one of the many helpful products she has found. She enjoys writing articles that will inform others of the things she has learned and how they too could benefit from this.

Blackout Blinds for Long Summer Days
One of the joys of summer is sunshine, but sometimes summer delivers to much of a good thing. In midsummer the hours of sunlight may intrude into sleep time for you and other family members. It is for this reason that roller blinds, Roman blinds and Venetian blinds can be the difference between being alert and being sleep deprived.
As human beings, we are by nature programmed to sleep during times of darkness and engage in activities during the daylight hours. For most of human history people kept to that pattern until the demands of agriculture made it necessary to get up in the dark to feed animals and make the required preparations for being in the fields at dawn. But even then bedtime pretty much coincided with that of the chickens.
Modern life doesn't always allow us to follow natures plan for our sleep cycle. Often the midsummer morning sun intrudes into the bedroom before we have had our full eight hours while at other times the sun hasn't gone below the horizon when we must go to bed. In today's world the hours of sunlight and the hours of our work life do not always go hand and hand.
The answer is not to try and force ourselves to sleep in sunlight or to try finding a work schedule that meets the sun's changing schedule but instead to make our own artificial night. Perhaps, the easiest way to achieve this would be to paint over the window panes, but a much more aesthetically pleasing alternative would be window blinds combined with curtains.
Roller blinds are lengths of material rolled on a rod containing an interior spring. The blind can be pulled down when required and will retreat when given a sharp, quick pull. How adequately they will block sunlight will depend on how well they fit the windows and the density of the material.
Venetian blinds consist of a series of horizontal slats made of wood, metal or vinyl that can slightly overlap when the slats are turned parallel with the window. These blinds are unique in that they can regulate the amount of light in a room by not only being raised and lowered but also by the degree to which the slats are slanted.
Roman blinds are a hybrid of roller and Venetian blinds; they are made of material with slates sown into the material at intervals. Roman blinds fold as they are raised instead of rolling onto a rod.
Effective blackout blinds can be a simple solution to the annual problem of sunlight intruding upon sleeping hours as well as a year around solution to those who work third shift. For a small investment you can give your body what it wants: darkness in which to repair and replenish itself.

Create the Perfect Window Dressing
Privacy
Ground floor rooms normally require more privacy than first floor rooms, especially if you have houses opposite or live on a main road. Think about your options - do you want something that offers complete privacy at all times or would you be happy to have clear windows during the day providing you can have complete privacy during the night? Consider how busy the road is and the level of footfall. Give special attention to any bedrooms and think about what kind of privacy they would need; you wouldn't want any window dressings that allowed silhouettes to be seen!
Sunlight
Understands how sunlight works in each individual room of your home. Are the rooms north or south facing? North facing rooms may require thermal window dressings to help keep the room warmer during the winter months, but don't go too heavy as this will block out natural daylight as may leave the room feeling unwelcoming and dark. Rooms that have direct sunlight need careful consideration. Direct sunlight can fade rich colours over time, so consider how much sunlight you want to allow in. Think about your décor and the cost of your possessions. Want to allow sunlight and protect your things? Then consider light filtering materials such as muslin.
Once you understand the functions required, start to consider style. Long gone are the days when net curtains where the main ingredient of a well-dressed window. Curtains, shades, blinds, shutters or any combination of these can help create and complete an interior look.
Style
When choosing your style of window treatment, think about the style of your room. Is it traditional, contemporary, eclectic or country? Do you want to introduce a style that can be repeated throughout the home?
Be Creative
Create your own individual look by thinking outside the box.
Use MDF to create custom valances - especially effective in bedrooms. Can be painted to match walls or papered to match a feature wall. Use a jigsaw to create your own individual design.
Venetian blinds can be teamed with fine pieces of muslin to help soften edges. Put both panels of muslin over the window and secure to the curtain pole with 'clip' rings. Gently pull each panel of muslin to opposite sides of the window, causing a natural 'cross-over' drape effect at the top of the window. Use decorative, luxurious tie-backs to keep the muslin in place. The venetian blind is then raised to the bottom of the drape to allow daylight in, and then dropped back in place for night time privacy.
Extra-long curtains look great in bedrooms as they fall elegantly onto the floor. This will only work if the curtains are for decoration only. Covering the radiator when closing the curtains is not ideal, especially in the winter months. Also not a great idea if you have to walk past the curtains as you could trip over the excess material. Combine them with blackout roman blinds/ roller blinds or vertical blinds for an effective, stunning look.
If you have an extra wide window, such as the kitchen, consideration needs to be given to the weight of the window dressings. Having one huge venetian blind could cause problems especially if the blind is raised and lowered on a daily basis. Why not consider getting several venetian blinds? This works really well and looks effective as you can have the blinds raised at different heights.
Colours and textures
Getting the right colour, pattern and texture is paramount to your dressing success. Think about the focus in your rooms. If you have introduced a really strong feature wall, then use a colour that blends in with the rest of the room - whether this is a light or dark colour. This doesn't mean that you can't use a mixture of styles or a mixture of different materials and textures to create a functional yet stunning window treatment.
If you have plenty of patterns then keep the window dressing plain and simple. The idea here is to enhance the look of the room, not add to it. Likewise if your room is very simple with clean lines consider soft, voluptuous muslin teamed with wooden blinds. If you have the room, why not consider wooden shutters for a simple yet effective look?

How to Measure Your Windows For Window Drapes
These days, a good number of people who want window drapes and curtains are shopping online. By doing so, they are able to land some of the best pieces ever. However, when you shop for window drapes from a web store, you need to send in exact window measurements.
Measuring for window drapes is not awfully hard. But, there are certain steps to follow.
You will need:
A retractable measuring tape
A pencil
A paper pad
Before you take the measurements, decide whether:
- You want formal drapes or informal café curtains.
- You want your window drapes hanging slightly below the bottom of the window opening. If so, you would need to measure approximately 4 inches below the bottom of the window.
- You want your drapes hanging to the floor in which case you need to measure from the top of the rod to an inch above the floor.
- You want the window drapes hanging from ceiling to floor (not just from the top of the window alone), in which case you will measure from about an inch below the ceiling to an inch above the floor.
It is a good idea to get curtain rods and fix them in place before you order your curtains. Curtain rods are hung approximately 6 inches above the frame, and the rods must stretch about 2-3 inches to each side of the window. If you're in doubt, discuss your needs with the salesperson.
Measuring width:
Width is always measured and mentioned first. Simply measure the width of the rod, from the first clip on one end to the first clip on the other end. You do this so you can leave out the decorative end pieces of the rod, if any. For generous folds in the drapes, multiply the width by two.
Measuring height:
Measure from the bottom of the clip or ring down to the place where you want the drape to hang.
In case you do not have curtain rods in place, measure the inside of the window casing for width. Measure the height from approximately six inches above the window frame to the length that you want the drape to hang.
Remember to measure each window separately even though these appear to be of the same size. Even small variations can have a huge visual impact. Be very meticulous in your measurements.
Custom made window drapes have many advantages. They give you the best deal for your money when compared to some other kinds of window treatments. Drapes help you control light, heat and sound levels. Besides, window drapes can be made to fit windows of any size whether these are corner windows, arched windows or bay windows. However, the beauty of custom made window drapes depends largely on proper measurements.

Creative Window Covering Ideas
There is no simpler or dramatic way to totally transform the look of a room than to change the window coverings. You can do this by buying new Venetian blinds or window shades but probably the cheapest way is to simply change the curtains.
One the least expensive window coverings is achieved by simply removing the current curtain rod and replacing it with a new one. You can forget about buying rails and all that jazz. The simplest and most modern looking window coverings are simply swaths of fabric that hang from pinch clips. Pinch clips are hoops, which like clothespins, grip the edge of the fabric and allow you to hang any kind of drape or material (hemmed or unhemmed) from the curtain rods. One very popular look is to simply buy a very fancy wrought iron or aluminum rod and then hang white hemmed sheets from it that have been hemmed. You still get that romantic billowing look without the expense of spending money on prefabricated drapes. You can also sew your own drapes using any fabric that tickles your fancy, including eyelet, cotton, satin, velvet or sheers. Many fabric stores also sell ropes, tassels and ribbons that can be used as tiebacks for the curtains.
There are also curtains and window coverings available that don't require any type of clip. These curtains come with fabric loops that easily slide along the curtain. These curtains, which come in a variety of designs and fabrics, are very inexpensive but you can also make your own by attaching your own loops to fabric. One handy feature is to have each fabric curtain loop fastened with buttons or Velcro to make the curtain easy to remove from the rod for washing.
You can also make your own window coverings out of specialty papers. These are transparent window blinds that are made from rice paper. Some of these papers are absolutely beautiful and feature details such as glitter, leaves or threads pressed right into mesh of the paper fibers. To make the curtain all you have to do is attach it to pinch clips. If you buy these in the store they are usually quite expensive especially if they are decorated with a motif pattern or a design as they are considered to be a bit haute couture.
Another way to personalize your décor is to paint your Venetian blinds. Simply take a stencil and spray-paint one solid design on the closed Venetian blinds. A stencil of a favorite motif or symbol and a can of spray-paint can also be used to embellish simple roll down blinds as well.
Always remember that your window coverings can help make the style of your room look more casual or more formal depending on what style you use. The more fabric, swags and pleats there are to your curtains, the more formal the room will look. The simpler your window treatment is, as would be the case with rice paper roll blinds or a single sheer hung from a curtain rod, the less formal the entire effect will be.
